BlueOtter is a character I created and copyrighted in early 1998 as an avatar for online roleplaying games. This character is registered on a number of online chat networks, multi-user dungeons (MUD's), and forums. His name is a little cliche, and he is just referenced as "Blue" in character, and BlueOtter out of character.
Before you stands a 6' 2" anthropomorphic male northern river otter. His form is built like a man's, but his frame differs starting at his midriff, which lays lower as his legs appear shorter, giving to his defined barrel-chest and wide shoulders the majority of his height. A thick rudder tail tapers to just before his heels and sways behind him gently as he walks. The lutra's paws and feet are thick, connected between his fingers and toes by a leathery webbing. His neck is long and atop it sets a distinctivley non-man face. His thick whiskery maw and his deep blue eyes show a gentle smile.
Perhaps the most striking difference about his form is he is covered in a soft, thick blue fur all over his body, offset by a white creme fur from his neck and chest along down his front. The mustelid typically is donned in a pair of cargo shorts and a loose-fitting grass green baseball shirt.
The kind-hearted mustelid enjoys meeting new people. He is playful in his choice of words, and will often deliberately introduce ambiguity to create humorous misunderstandings. He likes to see people squirm.
As far as his interests, he enjoys taking long trips with friends, as well as spending time alone in solitary contemplation. He particular enjoys time to reflect in the buggy afternoons, quiet sunrises, and starry-skied woods. He has a strong interest in natural sciences, and enjoys stargazing and collecting and releasing strange critters that may find their way past his nose.
Numerous depicitions of the azure mustelid have been made and passed about, and I wanted a central location to chronical the evolution of this character as well as recognize the fine artists who have rendered him. So, here we go:
Aug-2002: Kandrel This is the oldest surviving image of BlueOtter. |
Sept-2002: GreyTheSkunk I have a huge thing for 007, and so my friend Grey rendered me in the classic Bond pose. I usually use this as my buddy icon. |
Dec-2002: GreyTheSkunk This was a strange time in my life... I treasure this picture to this day, however. It's the only framed furry art in my house. |
Sept-2004: n This is one of the few renderings of BlueOtter without his creme mask, presented by 'n' as a gift. |
Mar-2005: n This was a bonus piece 'n' added to a two-picture original auction I won. |
Sept-2005: Kilcodo This was my first physical art-trade, at MFM 2005. It's in commemoration of our kareoke experience late one drunken night. |
Jan-2006: EbonyTigress This was a birthday present from my very good friend, Ebony. |
Feb-2006: Vintageman This is in response to a post on LJ's re_image community regarding what I'd be doing on V-Day. |
Mar-2006: Thornwolf Thorn started doing a limited number of "Horror Badge" commissions, and I just couldn't pass up the lunacy of 'otter' and 'horror' put together. This was the final badge result. |
Apr-2006: BlueOtter Around late 2005, I began posting my art online, and of course, most of it is of my own character. This is the first traditional media rendering of him I really like. |
June-2006: Zeek Calzaya Another Bond gift picture from a Lousiana friend. |
Sept-2006: Pazyryk This was Pat's half of a badge trade we executed in the lobby of MFM 2006. This was a silly 'red scare' trade theme we were doing. |
Oct-2006: Thornwolf Again, Thornwolf was doing a limited number of 'emo badges', and I once again couldn't pass up on the idea. Woe is me! |
Oct-2006: Wastrel Wastrel's a swell guy I know back from 1996-ish, and we met up again randomly on the intarwebs. So, this is piece of gift art he did for me. |
Feb-2007: Lennie This is a wonderfully horrible inside joke with a few friends. Sushi in the arse for the win! |
Oct-2009: Stephanie Valencia An awesome interpretation based on my description of BlueOtter as "bubbly". He ended up quite the shmexy one. |
All of the images of this page are copyrighted by their creators, and, of course, the character of the blue otter is copyright by me. Obviously, some rather eager pictures have been modified to be kid-friendly. This is by no means my entire collection, as that'd get rather tedious to scroll through. However, I am keenly interested in art trades and collaborations with other artists. Please contact me to discuss your art-related desires.
